The North Atlantic right whale is the most endangered large whale in the oceans today. This is a story of science and rediscovery, of survival and protection, and of research, without which we cannot hope to protect the right whale's habitat.

Scott Kraus is the Director of Research and Kenneth Mallory is the Editor-in-Chief of the publishing program at the New England Aquarium. They have both written numerous books and scientific papers as well as children's books, including one they wrote together Search for the Right Whale, published in 1992.

The New England Aquarium opened in 1969 to present, promote, and protect the world of water. In addition to its programs and exhibits, enjoyed by more than 1.3 million visitors every year, the Aquarium's conservation and research projects are among its most important initiatives.
